Oh, man. Twitter really is addicting!

So, here’s my point. I’m now handling Twitter accounts for myself at CampManager, the ARVC Michigan members at arvcmichigan, the ARVC Michigan campers at michcampgrounds and the ARVC Campground Management School at campgrndschool. And let me tell you, it’s fun, I’ve learned a lot, met some really great new people and got lost a time or two.
Enter Splitweet. The perfect solution for me. It’s a great dashboard from which I can handle all the accounts I choose. I can read, tweet, follow trends, direct message and reply all from one place. This is one Twitter tool that has really helped me streamline the process. You could use it to your advantage too. Create Twitter accounts for your park and any activity groups that frequent it such as canoeing, birding, homeschoolers, RVing Women, and anything you feel you can keep up with. Then load them all into Splitweet.
That’s it for now, I have some tweeting to do. Thanks for reading, I’d love to hear your ideas too. Tracie
By now you’re hearing a lot about Twitter and rightly so. It’s a great tool for communicating with your campers. One of the problems with Twitter though, is that it can be a little clumsy when you’re trying to find people. Here’s where Twellow can be a great help.
Once you create an account with Twellow (after you’ve created an account with Twitter) you can search for people by interest, name, place…all kinds of ways. (be sure to click “advanced following” so your selections will be updated in your Twitter account)
I used it after I created ARVC Michigan’s Twitter account to find all things Michigan camping, rving, tourism, travel and news related. Entire lists of possible people and businesses to follow came up. Then I was able to simply click “follow” on any I wanted. The beauty of it is that many of them, after receiving notice I was following them, opted to follow me back.
Try it and let me know how it works for you.
Yes…I know….everybody’s doing it. At least that’s what I keep hearing. So I’ve been doing a little research on just who is and whether or not it’s working for them. Also, if it is working for them, how is it working and what tips can I gather from it all?
This is what I’ve learned so far. Everybody’s doing it.
Churches are doing it, Taxi Cab companies are doing it, Realtors are doing it, Teachers and Colleges are doing it. But the real question is, are RV Parks and Campgrounds doing it? So far, not so much. Well, I think it’s the perfect time to start. We should, at the very least, be monitoring Twitter to learn when we are being Tweeted about.
A good example I heard of this was when a JetBlue customer needed a wheelchair and the answer was just a Tweet away. The problem was handled immediately. That could be pretty sweet in your park. Resolving issues before they become issues is the ulitmate dream for most of us. I think Twitter can go a long way in helping us get there. Imagine giving your campers the link to your Twitter stream from your website. You can then watch their Tweets as they travel to your park on Friday night. You’ll know who’s going to be late and you can also let them know of any road construction, last minute cancellations or upgrades as they travel because many people receive their Tweets by phone!
I know it sounds big and you’re busy, with little time to figure out something new. So, take it a bite at a time. Go to Twitter Search and type in the name of your park, see if anything comes up. Then type in the words Campground or RV Park. You’ll get a very good idea of what goes on in the Twitterverse. The best way to begin with Twitter is just to watch and explore for awhile. It may give you some great ideas of ways you can use it to your, and your camper’s advantage.
